I’ve always thought it was pretty hard to actually play MIDI instruments using a touchscreen device – i.e. iPhone, iPad etc. This new app is a step in the right direction though – a new ‘Scale Snap’ feature corrects wrong notes on the fly.

Foot controllers, or any MIDI controller in general really, can lean towards being more expensive than what you’re looking for. If you need a foot controller for live, but don’t have the spare cash, then this $10 DIY project (with instructions) could be just the thing you need!
Griid is a new iPad app produced by Liine, featuring direct Ableton Live integration thanks to a new module called ‘Cliip’.
Alongside full Ableton Live compatibility, it features an intuitive touch interface for editing MIDI clips right from your iPad. Clip editing via a touch screen – why didn’t someone think of that sooner? It’s got all the normal iPad-esque multi-touch gestures, ala pinch to zoom. It makes MIDI editing sound like a breeze.
